The Wisconsin School for the Deaf Foundation (WSDF) supports innovative projects and programs, which advance the well being of deaf and hard of hearing individuals throughout life and promote successful relationships with their families, service providers and communities.
The organization began as a direct result of the school's 150th anniversary celebration. Members of that planning committee identified the need for an organization to support the school's activities but to go beyond the school to the Wisconsin deaf community at large. Primary interests at the time included: preserving the school's history in a museum format, building relations with service providers, and offering assistance to families of deaf students in the form of scholarships and grants. A small group of interested volunteers completed the work necessary for the Foundation to incorporate and become a non-profit organization in 2001.
Since that time, much has been done to build the foundation of the organization including developing our mission and bylaws, identifying board members, establishing priorities, and developing funding guidelines. We have received most of our funding from small fundraisers, interested organizations and individuals. We feel we have a solid base to expand our fundraising effort and thus the impact we can have on the deaf population in Wisconsin.
